Dog Grooming: Level Two
A second type of grooming is one that your dogs need every few months. For dogs with smooth coats, level two grooming can be done every two months, and even less often for a bath. On the other hand, for dogs with medium coat, long coat, curly coat, and wire haired coat, especially those that are in full show coats, level two grooming should be done every four to six weeks.
Level two grooming can be quite a demanding and usually time consuming task. Many dog owners choose to leave this level of grooming to the hands of experienced groomers to make sure that the entire grooming process is properly done. Below is a list of what generally include on level two grooming. Some steps may vary depending on your pet’s needs as well as your circumstance.
1. Checking for parasites and applying pesticides as needed.
2. Thoroughly brushing out tangles and removal of mat.
3. A thorough comb out to make sure all tangles and mats are off the coat.
4. Thoroughly checking of ears, eyes, teeth, behind, paws, and paw pads.
5. Thoroughly checking the skin for any changes.
6. Bathing and coat conditioning treatment.
7. Clipping nails.
8. Clipping and styling of the coat according to the type of breed.
9. Applying eye drops, tooth scaling, ear powder, and anal gland expressing as needed.
10. Giving your dog a treat for his patience throughout the whole process.
Bathing and coat styling can be a challenge, especially if your dog has a long coat. Many dog owners decide to take their dogs to a professional groomer to do this level of grooming. There are many professional groomers available. Some professional groomers have mobile grooming vans that go to your house and groom your dog in a suitable area, usually your driveway or backyard.
Grooming plays an important part of owning a dog. Your dog’s health and well being rely on you and how much you take care of him. Commit to grooming your dog and make it a part of your regular schedule.
Dogs love routine, and even the most flexible and laid-back dog can be thrown off when grooming is not done on a regular basis. However, dogs that are groomed regularly will learn that grooming is normal and are more ready and willing to accept it as a part of their schedule. They may even look forward to this event as a special time to share with their owners.
